Resource Pump Connection Idea
Okay, so, we all know how fucky the resource pumps are right now in terms of physical interaction. Source Engine doesn't handle Parenting + Deparenting + Elastics and such very well, and has a heap of issues associated with it.
However, the IDEA of a visual connection, or requiring both sides to connect to function is still a good one, but in my opinion, it should NOT be done in any way that deals with actual physics. I think we gave it a good test run, and that should be scrapped.
So, instead, I think we should make it wireless again, but only physically. Visually, we can use some kind of transmission. A beam, or clientside model rendering, something of that sort to simulate the fact that it's connected to another pump.
This, in my opinion, would be a good middle ground where no physics are actually being utilized, so no fucky stuff can happen in that regard, and has the reliability of the original wireless pumps. It also opens up a much greater possibility to visual cues, where we can show resource direction/type/transfer activity, etc etc.
I'd be willing to handle the logical/resource-based aspects of it, but my eye for visual design is terrible, so there'd need to be lots of work on that side of things.
